What is this website about?

This site is a travel journal of two peoples travels around the country by train attempting to cover as much is the UK Rail Network as possible. What is considered to be the rail network you may ask? It is the rail network with a passenger service as shown in the superb Rail Atlas of Great Britain and Ireland updated and republished in May 2010. It in it's 12th edition, compiled by S.K. Baker and published by OPC. Available from all good bookshops. The publication has been progressively improved from the first one I purchased, the 3rd edition in 1980.

There are other activities will be attempted during these days out

  • Visit new and ineresting places in the UK
  • Travel over some of the most scenic and interesting lines
  • Allow number one son to underline as many new numbers as possible
  • Travel on loco hauled trains, this is a little more difficult these days but still possible

This site is aimed to those of you who have an interest in UK railways but others interested in general travel may find it of interest too. Hopefully you will find some of the tales of travel amusing. The views expressed here on this website are my own and the names are not given to avoid unintentional embarrassment. Those present on any of the trips will know who you are.

Track Bashing can be a very enjoyable experience seeing all parts of the UK from a train window. It can also be very frustrating when plans do not work out as they should and you end up missing sections and having to replan in the spur of the moment.

The Early Years covers journeys had long before the arrival of number one son and some of the more eventful trips around the rail network. Over the coming months it is hoped to add more trip reports to the older sections as time permits.

I am always happy to hear from anyone and if you have any questions drop me an email using the contact page.
